Indexer & index checks
Send URLs to the indexer, check in bulk whether pages are in Google's index, and understand monthly quotas, usage packs and what is returned.
A page that isn't in Google's index can't rank, and a purchased link on a page that isn't indexed passes little value. The Indexing page gives you two tools for this: Send to indexer, which submits URLs to an indexing service and reports back later, and Index check, which tells you whether URLs are currently in Google's index.
It's useful for new pages and articles, for the pages that carry your purchased links, and for checking large URL lists after a migration. Open it from the sidebar under Tools → Indexing (open it).
How it works
Both tools work in jobs: you paste a list of URLs, pick the action and click Start. Every URL uses one unit of quota.
- Send to indexer: the URLs are sent to the indexing service. About 3 days later serp.ac checks the index status of each URL and sends you a summary ("Indexing finished: 7/10 indexed").
- Index check: serp.ac checks whether each URL is in Google's index right now. Results usually arrive within minutes.
Quotas and packs
Each plan includes a monthly quota for both tools, reset at the start of every billing period:
| Plan | Indexer URLs per month | Index checks per month |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | 100 | 200 |
| Pro | 500 | 1,000 |
| Agency | 2,000 | 4,000 |
During the free trial the quotas are capped at 20 indexer URLs and 100 index checks; the full monthly quota starts with the first paid period.
Need more? Buy a usage pack on the Billing page: +500 indexer URLs for $29 or +1,000 index checks for $9. Packs are one-off purchases charged to your saved card, they never expire, and they are used only after your monthly quota runs out. See Billing for details.
When usage is returned
Indexing is decided by Google and can't be guaranteed, so usage isn't returned for URLs that don't get indexed. Usage is returned automatically when the failure is on serp.ac's side:
- a job that can't be submitted at all because of a technical failure is marked Failed (usage returned);
- URLs that couldn't be submitted in a failed submission are returned;
- index-check URLs whose check ended in Error are returned.
If you don't have enough quota for a job, it doesn't start and nothing is used.
Step by step
- Open Tools → Indexing. The two cards show how many units you have available, the monthly quota used, when it resets and how many you have from packs.
- Choose the Action: Send to indexer or Index check. Each option shows how many units are available.
- Optionally pick a Project (optional) so the job is grouped with that project.
- Paste your URLs, one per line (up to 10,000 per job). Duplicates and lines that aren't valid http(s) URLs are skipped.
- Click Start.
- Follow the job under Recent jobs. Click a job to see the status of each URL and when it was checked.
- For submissions, wait for the summary notification after about 3 days, or check the job later.
You can also send a single page from Link management: open a link and click Send to indexer. If a purchased link's page drops out of the index, the Telegram alert includes a button to send it to the indexer.
What the statuses mean
URL statuses:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Queued | Waiting to be processed. |
| Submitted | Sent to the indexing service; the index check follows in about 3 days. |
| Indexed | Found in Google's index. |
| Not indexed | Not found in Google's index. |
| Error | The URL couldn't be checked or submitted. For index checks, its usage is returned. |
Job statuses: Queued, Processing (for submissions the job line shows "being sent to Google…", then "sent to Google" with the date), Done, and Failed (usage returned). Each job line also shows how many units came from your monthly quota and how many from packs.
Tips
- Run an Index check first and only send the URLs that are Not indexed to the indexer. Index checks are cheaper and you won't spend indexer URLs on pages that are already indexed.
- Make sure pages are indexable before submitting: no noindex tag, not blocked by robots.txt, a self-referencing canonical, and real content. The indexer can't override those signals. A site audit finds these issues.
- Linking new pages from already indexed pages (and your sitemap) helps the indexer's work stick.
- Purchased link pages are checked for indexing automatically about every 14 days in Link management, without using your index-check quota.
FAQ
Is indexing guaranteed?
No. Google decides what goes into its index. The indexer makes sure Google discovers and crawls your URLs, but pages with thin or duplicate content, or with technical blocks, may still be left out. That's why usage isn't returned for URLs that don't get indexed.
When does my quota reset?
At the start of every billing period. The date is shown on each quota card ("resets …"). Unused monthly units don't carry over, but pack units never expire.
What happens if I run out?
A job that needs more units than you have available doesn't start and nothing is used. Buy a pack on the Billing page or upgrade your plan, then start the job again.
Can I use the indexer from the API?
Yes. POST /api/v1/index/submit and POST /api/v1/index/check take a JSON body with a list of URLs (up to 10,000 per request), and you can poll a job with GET /api/v1/index/jobs/{id}. They use the same quota and packs as the app. See API & MCP.
Where do I get notified when a submission is done?
The summary is sent as the Page de-indexed / indexing results event. Choose its channels in notification settings.
