Rank tracking (SERP)

Track your daily Google positions in the top 100 by device and location, with competitors, AI Overview citations, SERP features and alerts.

SERP tracking shows where your site ranks on Google for the keywords that matter to you. Positions are checked every day across the top 100 results, separately for each device and location, so you can see trends, compare yourself with competitors and find out whether Google's AI Overview cites you.

It's useful for site owners who want to know if their SEO work is paying off, and for agencies that report rankings to clients. Open it from Project → SERP tracking, or open it directly.

How it works

  • Daily checks. Every tracked keyword is checked automatically once a day. The page says when the last check ran.
  • Top 100 depth. We read the first 100 Google results. If your domain isn't among them, the position shows as 100+. Subdomains of your domain count as your site.
  • Device and location. Each keyword is tracked for one device (Desktop or Mobile) and one location, which can be any country, region or city Google supports. Results use your project's language.
  • One keyword, one combination. The same phrase on mobile and desktop, or in two cities, counts as two tracked keywords.
  • New keywords are fetched right away. Results usually arrive within a few minutes, and a spinner shows in the position column until then.
  • Failed checks are retried automatically later the same day. A failed check never overwrites your last known position.
  • If your plan ends, tracking pauses but your data is kept.

Add keywords step by step

  1. Open Project → SERP tracking and scroll to Add keywords.
  2. Enter your keywords, one keyword per line.
  3. Pick a Device: Desktop or Mobile.
  4. Set a Location. Start typing a country, region or city and pick it from the suggestions. It defaults to your project's country.
  5. Click Add and fetch rankings. The keywords appear in the table, and their first positions arrive shortly.
  6. To track the same keywords on another device or in another city, add them again with different settings.
  7. Need a fresh reading during the day? Click Check now. This re-checks every keyword in the project. You can use it once an hour and up to 6 times a day per project. If a result for the same query is less than an hour old, it's reused.

To change keywords later, tick them in the table and click Edit. You can change the device or location for many keywords at once, or the wording of a single keyword. Changing what's tracked clears that keyword's ranking history and starts a fresh check. Delete stops tracking and also deletes the history.

What the numbers mean

The cards at the top:

Card What it shows
Tracked keywords Keywords in this project, plus your usage across all projects against your plan limit
Top 3 Keywords ranking 1–3 (the number in the top 10 is shown underneath)
Improved / declined Keywords that moved up or down since the previous check
Cited in AI Overview Keywords where Google's AI Overview links to your site, out of those that show an AI Overview

The keyword table:

  • Position – your best-ranking URL's position in the latest check. Top 3 and top 10 positions are highlighted in color, and 100+ means not in the top 100.
  • Change – positions gained (▲) or lost (▼) since the previous check.
  • 30 days – a small chart of the latest checks.
  • AI Overview – Cited if the AI Overview links to your domain, Not cited if there's an AI Overview without you, None if Google showed no AI Overview. Tags under it list other SERP features on the page: People also ask, Local pack, Snippet, Video and Images.
  • Competitor columns – one column per competitor domain from your project settings, showing their position (— if they aren't in the top 100).
  • Ranking URL – the page of yours that ranks.

Use the filters (All, Top 3, Top 10, 11–100, Not ranking, Improved, Declined) and the search box to narrow the list. Click the Keyword, Position or Change headers to sort.

Ranking-change alerts

When a check finds a big move, you get one grouped Big ranking changes alert per project. A keyword counts as a big move when it:

  • drops out of the top 100,
  • enters the top 100, or
  • moves 5 or more positions up or down.

Choose where these alerts go (email, Telegram, Slack or Discord) in Settings → Notifications. See Notifications.

Plan limits

Keyword limits apply to your whole account, across all projects: Starter 100, Pro 500, Agency 1,000. Need more? Add +250 SERP keywords for $49 per month on the Billing page. See Billing and plans.

Tips

  • Track the pages that make money first: product, service and category keywords, not every long-tail variation.
  • Add mobile tracking for keywords where most of your visitors are on phones. Mobile and desktop positions often differ.
  • Use city-level locations for local businesses, and pair them with Maps rankings.
  • Add competitor domains in Project → Project settings to get their positions in the same table.
  • If you've connected Search Console, click Track next to a query to start tracking it. It's added as a desktop keyword in your project's country.
  • A keyword with an AI Overview that doesn't cite you is a good candidate for the AI visibility and AI readiness checks.

FAQ

How often are rankings updated?

Once a day, automatically. You can also click Check now once an hour, up to 6 times a day per project, to re-check every keyword in the project.

Why does my keyword show 100+?

Your domain wasn't among the first 100 Google results for that keyword, device and location in the latest check. Rankings deeper than 100 aren't tracked.

Which language are the searches made in?

Your project's language, which you set under Project → Project settings. The location is set per keyword.

Does tracking a keyword on mobile and desktop count twice?

Yes. Each combination of keyword, device and location is tracked separately and counts as one keyword toward your plan limit.

What happens to the history if I edit a keyword?

Changing the wording, device or location clears that keyword's ranking history and starts a fresh check, because the old positions no longer apply. Deleting a keyword deletes its history too.
