Competitors

Find who you really compete with in Google and AI answers, compare share of voice and keywords head to head, and get alerted when a competitor overtakes you.

Competitors shows who you actually compete with for your tracked keywords. It finds the domains that keep ranking next to you, sorts out marketplaces and content sites, and compares you with the competitors you choose: share of voice over time, keyword by keyword, and in AI answers.

Everything comes from data your project already collects: the daily Google results of your rank checks and the answers of your AI visibility prompts. Open it from Project → Competitors, or open it directly.

How competitors are found

Every day after your rank checks, we look at the latest Google results (top 100) for each of your tracked keywords and score every domain in them:

  • Common keywords – on how many of your keywords the domain ranks anywhere in the results, and how many of those are in the top 10.
  • Average position – its average best position on those keywords.
  • Visibility – the clicks it can expect, estimated from a click-through-rate curve by position (position 1 gets far more clicks than position 9). Subdomains count toward their main domain.

Your own domain and its subdomains are never suggested. Suggestions appear once at least 5 tracked keywords have a daily check.

How domains are classified

Each domain gets a type:

Type What it means
Competitor Offers the same kind of thing as you: an online store like yours, or software like yours, in your project's language and country, with a real keyword overlap
Marketplace Trendyol, Hepsiburada, n11, Amazon, eBay, Etsy, price-comparison sites and similar
Content site Wikipedia, YouTube, Reddit, Ekşi Sözlük, forums, news sites, social networks, government and university sites
Unclassified Not enough signals to tell

Well-known marketplaces and content sites come from a built-in list. For the other strongest domains we read their home page once a month (no paid data): product and price markup, "add to cart" buttons and cart links mean an online store; pricing pages and free-trial buttons mean software; article lists and news markup mean a content site. Your own home page is read the same way, so a store is matched with stores.

Suggestions

When there's enough data, the project overview and the SERP page show a card: We found N competitors in your keywords. Each suggestion shows why, for example "22 common keywords · avg position 4".

  1. Click Add as competitor to add the domain to your project's competitor list. Rank tracking, the keyword popup, keyword alerts, AI visibility and the backlink gap all use it from then on.
  2. Click Dismiss if it isn't a competitor. A dismissed domain is never suggested again. You can restore it under Dismissed on the Competitors page.

Marketplaces and content sites are listed in their own collapsed groups. They're useful context, but they aren't suggested as competitors. You can still add one if it really is a competitor for you.

The competitor list holds up to 500 characters, as in Project → Project settings, where you can also edit or remove competitors.

The Competitors page

  • Share of voice – your share of the estimated clicks across your tracked keywords, next to each competitor you added and everyone else. The chart shows the last 90 days, built from each day's results.
  • Head to head – your keywords against one competitor, in four groups: They rank above you, You rank above them, Only they rank and Only you rank. Click a keyword to open its Google results.
  • Discovered domains – every domain found, with filters by type, common keywords, top 10 count, average position and visibility.
  • AI competitors – brands named and sources cited in your AI visibility answers. When we know a brand's domain, you can add it with one click.

Click Refresh to recalculate now (once an hour). Otherwise it updates automatically every day.

Competitor alerts

After the daily calculation you get one Competitors overtook you alert per project when a competitor you added:

  • moved ahead of you on 3 or more keywords since the previous check, or
  • gained 5 or more share-of-voice points in 7 days.

It's sent by email and Telegram by default. Keywords that already have their own A competitor overtakes me rule aren't counted again here, so you don't get the same news twice. Change the channels in Settings → Notifications. See Notifications.

Tips

  • Track enough keywords for a fair picture: 20 or more product, service and category keywords give much better suggestions than 5.
  • Add 3 to 5 real competitors. More lines make the charts harder to read.
  • A marketplace that outranks you everywhere is a channel, not just a rival: consider selling there too.
  • Content sites that rank for your keywords are good targets for guest posts and links. See Backlinks.

FAQ

Does competitor discovery cost credits or use paid data?

No. It uses the Google results your daily rank checks already store and a free, monthly look at a few home pages.

Why don't I see any suggestions?

At least 5 tracked keywords need a daily check first. If the domains around you are all marketplaces or content sites, they're listed in the collapsed groups instead of as suggestions.

Why is a real competitor marked Unclassified?

Its home page didn't give clear signals (for example it blocks automated visits), or its language or country differs from your project's. You can still add it.

How is share of voice calculated?

For every tracked keyword we estimate the clicks each ranking domain can expect from its position, then take your part of the total. It's an estimate for comparing trends, not real traffic.

Will I get two alerts for the same keyword?

No. Keywords with their own competitor alert rule are left out of the daily competitor alert.
