Frequently asked questions
What is schema markup?
Schema markup (structured data) is code — usually JSON-LD — that describes your page in a vocabulary search engines understand: the product, its price and rating, the article's author and date, your business address and more. It powers rich results like stars, prices and breadcrumbs.
Which schema types does the checker validate?
Organization, LocalBusiness (and subtypes like Restaurant or Dentist), Product, Article, BlogPosting, NewsArticle, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList, WebSite, Review, AggregateRating, Event, HowTo, Recipe and VideoObject. Other types are detected and shown, without rich-result rules.
What's the difference between required and recommended properties?
Without the required properties, Google won't show a rich result for that item at all. Recommended properties are optional but make the result richer and more likely to be shown.
Does valid markup guarantee a rich result?
No. Valid markup makes a page eligible, but Google decides whether to show a rich result based on quality, relevance and policies. Some features are restricted — FAQ rich results only appear for authoritative government and health sites, and How-to rich results were retired.
Why doesn't the checker find my schema?
We read the HTML your server returns. If your structured data is injected by JavaScript or a tag manager, it won't appear in the raw HTML. Paste the rendered HTML into the "Paste code" tab, or render JSON-LD on the server so every crawler can see it.
Is JSON-LD better than Microdata?
Google supports both, but recommends JSON-LD because it's separate from your visible HTML and easier to maintain. AI assistants and other crawlers also parse JSON-LD reliably.
