Frequently asked questions
What is keyword difficulty?
Keyword difficulty (KD) estimates from 0 to 100 how hard it is to reach Google's top 10, based on the authority and backlinks of the pages that rank now. Under 30 is usually realistic for newer sites; over 70 needs strong backlinks and a trusted domain.
Where does the search volume come from?
Volumes are Google Ads data for the selected country and language, averaged per month, with a trend for the last 12 months. They are estimates rounded by Google, so use them to compare keywords rather than as exact traffic.
What does search intent mean?
Intent is what the searcher wants: informational (learn something), commercial (compare options), transactional (buy or sign up) or navigational (find a specific site). Matching your page type to the intent is key to ranking.
How many keyword ideas do I get?
The free tool shows the 10 most searched ideas and tells you how many we found in total. With a serp.ac plan, the Keyword Explorer shows every related keyword, question and matching term with filters, Google's top 10 with backlinks and CSV export.
How often can I use the free tool?
Up to 3 keyword researches per day. Results for the same keyword, country and language are cached, so checking them again is instant.
Which countries and languages are supported?
Every country Google Ads covers, in that country's main language or another language you choose. Data is country-wide; for city-level rankings use rank tracking.
